I am pleased to announce the second Beta release of Podcast Manager, a suite of extensions for Joomla! designed to allow you to host and manage a podcast feed from your Joomla! 1.6 site.
NOTE: This is a BETA release, meaning that not all functionality may be working as expected.
Changes since Beta 1
Since the first beta release last week, the following changes have been made:
- getID3 Library restored - The getID3 library was removed from the first beta package because at that point, it was undetermined whether the necessary functions to use this library would be programmable. After further experimenting and research, the necessary code was written to call this library only when podcast files are selected in the manager's edit view, and the library was reintegrated.
- One-click update support - Testing was done of the Extension Manager's update process to develop a simple method for updates between releases. Effective with this release, future updates will be able to be handled with the core update system
- Optional HTML overrides - In order to maximize display compatibility, HTML overrides are downloadable for the Hathor and Minima administrator templates. Hathor is the accessible administrator template that is distributed with the core Joomla! package in addition to Bluestork, while Minima will be distributed with Molajo. At this time, these are the only templates for which overrides are to be supported due to their distribution in a full Joomla! installation package.
The Road to Stable
At this time, there are no major bugs (that I've found) that would prevent a Stable release. Since the getID3 library was restored, an additional beta release is necessary to verify that there are no major issues. Subject to any major issues, the stable release will be made on April 13.
