Podcast Manager 1.7.1 has been released today and is now available for download. This release includes new features and bug fixes.
IMPORTANT - Effective with this release, Joomla! 1.6 compatibility is dropped.
Changes since 1.7.0
The 1.7.1 release is mostly a maintenance release fixing numerous bugs and optimizing code for Joomla! 1.7 compatibility. One new feature is added to this release as well; users are now able to link to off-site media in podcast episodes by manually specifying a File URL in the upload form. Changes in this release include:
- Add a missing language string for the File Manager
- Convert toolbar tasks from JToolBarHelper::custom to defined tasks as appropriate (Joomla! 1.6 backward compatibility dropped)
- Synchronized layouts with optimizations made for 1.7
- Correct counts for feeds view
- Correct media installer menu removal
- Modified podcast summary field to allow up to 5120 characters
- Fixed storage bug with itunescategory field
- Fix a bug in custom code rendering for content plugin
- Change $filepath processing in content plugin
Upgrading from 1.7.0 to 1.7.1 has a single database schema update to allow the podcast episode summary field to be 5120 characters in length. If you have access to a tool such as phpMyAdmin, you can verify this change was applied by reviewing the structure for the #__podcastmanager table.
Upgrade from 1.6 or 1.7 Releases
Users of all previous Podcast Manager releases will be able to upgrade their pre-existing installation without having to delete the existing version or their media files. Joomla! 1.6 users will not see the 1.7.1 update without first updating to Joomla! 1.7 (please review the "Upgrade 1.6.5 to 1.7" tutorial on the Joomla! Documentation site for information on this). All database upgrades will be handled for Podcast Manager 1.6 users moving directly to 1.7.1.
This release will be the last release in the 1.7 series. Development for Podcast Manager 1.8 has been ongoing since the 1.7.0 release and is currently in an Alpha phase with all planned features implemented. Additional features are still a possibility until the release reaches the beta phase. As always, user submissions are welcome via the project space on GitHub.
